Using universal design to create barrier-free spaces
Universal Design
"Universal Design is the design and composition of an environment so that it can be accessed, understood and used to the greatest extent possible by all people regardless of their age, size, ability or disability. An environment [...] should be designed to meet the needs of all people who wish to use it."
-- National Disability Authority
Unfortunately, many building designs do not feature universal design, which causes accessibility issues and unnecessary barriers in living spaces.
Accessibility
Every part of your home should meet your needs. Accessibility in the home environment means that every part of your home is designed for your safety, comfort, and convenience. Cabinets should always be within reach; lighting and contrast should always be sufficient for you to easily see what you are doing; furniture and stairs should never create a barrier or fall risk.
Working with Change In Motion means working with a specialist to help make sure that every part of your home is accessible for you, your family, and your guests. When accessibility barriers are identified, Change In Motion partners with you to identify solutions that meet your needs, goals, style, and budget.
